Overjoyed: Mouse Only Accessible Gaming | 10:30 AM
Anthony DeVergillo, is the co-creator of software that aims to help people with little or no mobility play video games. In April of 2024 he and his co-creator Jonah Monaghan released Overjoyed on the Microsoft Store. Overjoyed, which is now part of the non-profit "Our Odyssey," has presets for gaming with a mouse and keyboard, playing Xbox or PlayStation titles, and for Nintendo Switch. GlassOuse Pro: Gyroscopic Head Mouse Demonstration | 1:00 PM
Cassandra Potter will be presenting on the use of a device called a Glassouse Pro. The Glassouse is a gyroscopic head mouse that uses assistive switches to connect and control multiple devices. It is specifically designed for people with limited mobility to access basic technology, such as video games. Cassandra works at Society's Assets as an Independent Living Coordinator. She uses assistive technology to overcome barriers and bring people together. She's always loved to play video games and finds a lot of joy in relaxing with a good game. She is honored that she gets to share that joy by making the world of gaming fun and welcoming for everyone. Essential Play: Uncovering Meaningful Experiences through Game Selection | 2:30 PM
This interactive presentation will examine various types and categories of video games and how they can appeal to different interests, build or challenge different skillsets, and create rewarding experiences. We will focus on how game design, play elements and controller configuration can increase or decrease engagement and give attendees the tools to deepen their interactions in both virtual and physical worlds. Gerald Hay is the Director of Independent Living Services for Independence First in Milwaukee. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Behavioral Science, and is licensed as a COTA/L in both Wisconsin and Illinois. For the past eight years, he has worked with people of all ages and backgrounds across the disability spectrum, and has extensive experience as an Assistive Technology Training Specialist. |
